47 Weeks Old

Every day is a new adventure in Aylaland! You are here, there and everywhere! Not to mention that on May 22 at 4:48pm YOU TOOK YOUR FIRST STEP! Daddy was on the computer in the kitchen and mommy sat down on the floor with you and told you that today was the day you were going to walk. I stood you up and let go. You like to balance and just stand there. Mommy then held out her hands and said "Come here baby", and you did! You can now take about 5-6 steps and then you will fall down. What is funny is that you get SO excited when you are walking that you try to run and get to one of us so you can jump and clap at yourself! You scream and cheer when you make it. It is absolutely precious! It is amazing at how much this child has such a strong personality. I knew when babies were born that they already had a personality, but I guess I didn't know that it would come across so quickly. We did determine that Ayla was a sassy little girl! I will admit that she has her daddy's looks and her mommy's personality. When I was little I was a crazy little girl. I was very strong willed, hyper, wild, energetic, busy child. Ayla is the same way. She is such a vibrant, happy, wild and crazy girl. I LOVE this about her. I do wish she had some of her daddy's personality lurking inside. Maybe she does. Stuart is a very laid-back, easy going kind of guy. I am the opposite. I am high strung, spastic, over the top kind of girl. We balance each other very well.

But Ayla, she isn't much for change. She doesn't do well when she gets off her schedule. Now, I'm not talking a strict schedule...we do various things throughout the day at different times. I am however talking about getting to far away from her bedtime. We like to bathe her at 7:45 and then be feeding her and getting her to bed no later than 8:30. Some nights it's a tad later, some a tad earlier. But when she really gets off her schedule, she get's very hyped up and hard to calm down. Hopefully she will become more laid back as the years go on.
Now...on another subject...when did you transition to the sippy cup? How did you start the whole milk process? She has a sippy cup throughout the day with water in it and I have tried one of her feedings in a sippy cup...but I know they tell you to take the bottle away at 1 year, so how do you transition to this? I'm a newbie and I have no idea! Ha

I will try to post a video of Ayla walking when Stuart gets home. It may take both of us to figure out how to do it! Ha ha

Walking! Such fun!
About the sippy cup - we gave Casey water in a sippy cup around this time, too. He was on formula, so we started mixing about 2 oz of whole milk with 4-5 ozs of formula, and then began to increase the whole milk. On his first birthday, we gave him a morning bottle of whole milk and then a sippy cup of milk throughout the day, and he did great! I guess he was getting enough table food to not be too hungry. We continued the nightime bottle with whole milk till right about 14 months, and he practically gave it up himself. :) Hope this helps some - we all just figure it out as we go!

Hey Sarah, My daughter transitioned herself from a bottle and formula to a sippy cup and whole milk. She did it on her own about 3 weeks before she turned one. My sisters little girl had to be transitioned by us. We gave her a soft nippled sippy cup with her formula in it first then transitioned her to whole milk by replacing one cup a day with milk for a week or so and graduated from there. I hope this helps some

I have a 15 month old boy. At his 1 year check-up, his pediatrician said to switch to whole milk and get rid of the bottle. She said the best way is cold turkey. So I just put the bottles away and began offering milk in a sippy cup with each meal. He had no problems at all! I was worried because I too had tried offering formula in a sippy cup and he didn't like it. Just liked his water sippy cup. His dr. said between 12-24 ounces of milk a day is good. Good luck!

Starting at 1 year, we had to mix the formula with whole milk to start with. Our little one just didn't like the taste of straight whole milk at first. We just used the rest of the formula in the can we had (we hated not to! it's so stinkin expensive!) She's 14 months now and we are still giving her a bottle just at night time. But, hopefully she will be giving that up soon! :) good luck!

We started offering Morgan water in sippy cup about 10 months and then about 11 months we started doing formula in the sippy cup. We did a a few days of half milk, half formula she hated it. We switched her to straight whole milk and she loves it. She will only take the sippy cups with handles on it and a soft tip spout, she hates the hard tops.
